The 10-megapixel Canon PowerShot SX1 IS is a reasonably small camera with an unreasonably powerful 20x zoom: it’s the equivalent of a 28-560mm lens on a 35mm camera, a nice wide-angle to telephoto range. It's a pricey camera at $599.99, but you do get full high-def video recording and a pivoting LCD screen, plus effective image stabilization to combat shaky hands when shooting with that long lens.
